Resistance is a tricky topic for anyone talking about the law of
attraction to cover; however, I feel up to the challenge because on a
personal level, I've never met anyone more capable of putting up
resistance than myself. I can resist anything and cause it to
self-destruct.
But first, what is resistance? Resistance is a concept in the law of attraction that refers to when someone resists their desire by thinking, feeling, and doing things that are incongruent with the desire. For instance, if someone wants a new lover, but constantly thinks about how ugly, unappealing, alone, misfortunate, hated by god, etc. they are, the more often they'll attract the exact opposite of their goal of a new lover. And in so doing, not only are they attracting what they don't want, but they're resisting what they do want. And if they were to simply let go and to stop blocking themselves, they'd have easier access to what they want and would attract what they don't want far less often.
So, what are some common ways that people resist the law of attraction? The most basic resistances are through belief, feeling, and action.
Resisting from belief is the most common form of resistance. This form of resistance often comes from logic or reason. Often, people think about how "illogical" the law of attraction is and "how stupid they are" for believing in something "so stupid". Sound familiar? Likewise, people begin to think about how all of their insecurities again and these beliefs about themselves pop up and make them feel bad. (On a side note, for this reason and a few others herein, it's very easy to see the Law of Attraction as a secular phenomenon for this because the whole point here is to get you to stop sabotaging yourself.)
Resistance can also come through emotions. This is very similar to blocks from belief; however, the key here is that how you feel about things causes you to resist them. So, rather than stopping yourself from going out on yet another Saturday because you already know you're an ugly, boring, dummy who no one will like, emotional blocks are the way that those thoughts together work to justify an accompanying emotional feeling like worthlessness, depression, alienation, loneliness, etc. In other words, just because you can separate them based on whether they're known through thoughts or feelings, blocks work together.
Likewise, you can resist through actions. As a physical being, ultimately, you have to act. And though you can be like Jonah and ignore the call until you end up in a really lousy position, that's not a very sensible strategy mostly because the universe is trying to give you what you want if you'd try. So, though many teachers of the law of attraction ignore action, it's essential that you take action. For instance, you can spend a ton of time fixing your thoughts and emotions, but if you don't then act in accordance with these new thoughts, then you're still blocking yourself (and you honestly probably haven't overcome all of your problems in your thoughts and emotions).
