One of the most paradoxical elements of the law of attraction is
receiving because in order to receive you must first ask, then surrender
(i.e. let the universe answer your asking), and then you receive. In
other words, before you can receive your desires you must ask for it and
then let it go-while retaining faith, determination, and persistence.
If you're confused, have no fear because this is exactly why I'm writing
this article the next nine or so articles following it. But this
article will be an overview of receiving.
Esther Hicks (Abraham) is one of the foremost teachers of the law of attraction, and something she says verbatim repeatedly is, "what you're thinking and feeling and what you're receiving are always a match". So, in the asking stage, as I've written about previously, you need to ask while thinking about and feeling what it'd be like to have the thing you're asking for.
Then, as I have also written about elsewhere, in the answering stage, you must let your desire go and surrender it to the universe. At the risk of sounding really hoary, you must "let go and let god" (or whatever you think of as the universe/divine/world). In order to do this, you need to have asked as best as you can, then you must let go of the desire and let the universe deliver your desire to you.
The receiving stage is the continuation of the answering stage; only herein you must listen to your intuition and take inspired action when you're drawn to do things. However, this topic in itself is very confusing, so, let's focus on it for a bit.
People get very hung up on the idea of inspired action and trying to figure out what is and isn't inspired action. And for good reason: it's easy to do. But I have a very simple solution to this problem: stop it! For the most part, if you're having trouble attracting the things you really want to you, your intuition is probably not well aligned to begin with. So, rather than trying to figure out what is and isn't inspired action, just be willing to make mistakes and think about things as if they're a game: you win some, you lose some. Sometimes, you make mistakes and sometimes you win the jackpot-and sometimes, both happen.
Remember, unless you're perfect aligned with the universe (one with god in some of the law of attraction philosophies), you're in a process of learning to hone your ability to deliberately create things in your environment. And that process of honing means sometimes you'll fall on your face and sometimes you'll be wrong; however, if you use that as an opportunity to learn to be right more often, you'll be far better off in general, but you'll start to get more and more of what you ask for and your intuition will get more and more dead on.
And one other major hang-up people have in the receiving stage is that they don't stay congruent with their desires in emotions, beliefs, and actions. In order to ask and to actually receive, you must have a desire that you want to a level near an obsession, imagine yourself actually having your desire (and make sure you feel what it's like to have it, be it, be doing
